What to do after 10+2 if not B.Tech or MBBS?



Dare to look beyond traditional boundaries:

We are again in that phase of the year when 12th appearing candidates decides which way to go. This exercise generally turns out to be a nightmare due to paucity of authentic information on different career option. Students approach their parents, other family members, friends and teachers for guiding them out of this wilderness but, they also feel equally disadvantaged. In this era of social networking sites on which information or opinion is readily available, generally fails to remove the veil of confusion. Timely and authentic information on different career options and different technical/professional institutes are, thus, need of the hour.

In modern era driven by power of knowledge we have unlimited career opportunities after 10+2. We can opt for different traditional, technical or professional course that may lead to great career. However, it is important to note that every option cannot be best for you. You must check whether a particular course will meet your career objectives or not, keeping in mind your limitations of merit and budget. Career Planning, based on expert advice, becomes very crucial for insuring success in life. Before you consult a qualified career counselor, you must be ready with answers of the following:

1)      What success means to you?
2)      What kind of life you like?
3)      What are your merit limitations?
4)      What are your financial or other limitations?

Once you choose a course for you, search for the best institute. Here again same qualified career consultant will give you authentic information on best possible government of private colleges. Friends, relatives, students or other acquaintances do help some times but generally they make you land somewhere else.

A career in engineering, medicine, accounting, or management is traditionally popular. For some, getting govt. job is everything. But there are equally exciting career options beyond these traditional areas:

1)      Media Sciences: You can do courses like Mass Communication, Journalism, Media Management, Event management, Advertising, Corporate Communication, Public Relations, etc apart from courses like photography, DJ, RJ, Anchor, or Presenter. Multimedia Designing, 3D Animation, Film Editing, Cinematography, choreography etc also offers very exciting career opportunity. Most of the institutions providing these courses are run by industry professionals, so they generally act as god father also.

2)      Hospitality: There are courses like Hotel Management, Catering Technology, Commercial Pilot, Air Hostess, Flight Stuart, Sports Management, Hospital Management, Rejuvenation (Therapeutic/Message) Treatment, etc. You can do these courses to capitalize on India’s growing popularity in world as a fast developing nation.

3)      Legal and Accounting: Apart from CA, you can do courses like CS, CFA, NCFM, etc also. Actuarial Science is another course of very rewarding prospects.

4)      Life Sciences: If you are not able to do MBBS or BDS, you can do B. Pharm, B. Opt, B.PT, BHMS, BAMS, BMLT, Nursing, Rehabilitation, Speech therapy, etc. Courses in the field of Micro Biology, Genetics, Bio technology, Dietetics & Nutrition, Medical Transcription, Bio informatics, Agri informatics, Dairy Technology, Apiculture, Sericulture, Forestry, Fishery, Veterinary, Pisiculture, Horticulture, etc are also worth doing, as India is expected to be one of the largest hub of research activity in these field in future.

5)      Fashion & Design: Fashion Technology, Industrial/Textile/Foot ware/Jewellery/Accessory designing are some of the highly rewarding courses. Fashion Marketing is another attractive area to opt for.

Prospects of different courses do vary with state of economy, technological development and regulatory environment. Thus, students must also keep these factors in mind while choosing a career. In fact, they should see at least five year hence while assessing the prospects of a particular course.

Placement is the prime motive of any professional or technical course. Remember if you score approx 70%, maintain yourself in Top one third of the batch, gain practical aptitude of the field, and have good personality, you will get placement from any college. If you miss on any of these count, getting placement will be little difficult. Emphasis on college which offers good learning environment; placement always comes with good learning.

NEET UG 2025 BDS: Expected Cutoffs & Admission Trends As NEET UG 2025 approaches, BDS aspirants must understand how cutoffs (ranks/marks) are trending. In NEET 2024 the qualifying percentiles for BDS were 50% for General (around 163–144 marks for UR) and 40% for reserved categories. In practice, top dental colleges demand much higher scores. For example, Maulana Azad Dental Institute Delhi (50 seats, Govt) saw closing AIR ranks of ~26,503 in 2022 and ~23,578 in 2023, indicating cutoffs are rising (scores needed are increasing). Based on past data, we expect NEET 2025 BDS cutoffs to remain steep: typically, General category candidates need ~550–600+ marks (above 98 percentile) to get into Govt. dental colleges, while OBC/SC/ST have somewhat lower thresholds.
